Adult Formation

Each year, faculty and staff gather for a retreat day, including speakers, group conversations, activities, and time to pray and reflect.

Each monthly faculty and staff meeting begins with a reflection, integrating elements of Ignatian Spirituality and connecting to other events and themes of the year.

New full-time faculty and staff participate in the Magis New Employee Formation Program. 

In the first year, new employees meet weekly with their cohort for continued orientation into our community and to learn about and discuss topics based on aspects of our school's mission, our Catholic identity, Ignatian Spirituality, and Jesuit education. 

After their first year, employees join colleagues from other schools in the Midwest Jesuit Province for the Ignatian Retreat for New Employees.

In the second year, employees explore the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm of Context, Experience, Reflection, Action, and Evaluation and how it relates to their own life and work. 

Adult Formation runs several optional formation events throughout the year, including speakers, opportunities to meet with colleagues, and times to pray together.

Faculty and staff small groups meet each semester, based on schedule and shared interests. Groups can follow the themes of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, go through a spiritual book on a particular topic, or share life experiences. We also collaborate with the Director of Mindfulness for small group opportunities to learn about and practice mindfulness. 

Retreat centers offer many types of retreats and programs, including day and weekend retreats, programs like the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, speakers, and group conversations, or silent individual reflection. Most retreat centers also welcome individuals to book a room for a day or a few days for their own reflection.
