Job Opening - Learning Center Teacher
Position Summary
Brebeuf Jesuit’s Learning Center is an inclusive environment that seeks to help students with diagnosed learning differences in a rigorous college preparatory school be successful, academically as well as socially. The Learning Center program supplements the teachers’ curricula and provides a space for students to grow in their exercise of accountability, respect, and resilience. Subject-specific professionals in the Learning Center provide one-on-one and/or small group oversight of students, and collaborate with families and teachers to facilitate student success.
This position reports to the Learning Center Director and the Principal.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
(Note: The following list of responsibilities is not exhaustive. Others may be assigned, subject to reasonable accommodations.)
- Teach an assigned caseload of students in the program as part of their academic schedules. This includes individualized coaching, academic check-ins, and student academic and personal support.
- Provide guidance to students, families, and teachers about students’ individual learning needs and any learning accommodations they receive at Brebeuf Jesuit.
- Read and analyze educational evaluations and other documentation related to academic accommodations, and adapt these into Brebeuf Jesuit Student Learning Plans.
- Provide subject-specific assistance to all students in the Learning Center at various times of the school day, based on teacher qualifications and team assignments.
- Communicate with teachers and parents on a consistent basis, as determined by the individual student’s needs.
- Teach and model study skills and organizational skills such as a daily planner and subject notebooks.
- Provide student oversight on academic progress and help students meet deadlines for assignments.
- Guide students and families in transition planning to help students move successfully into college level academics.
- Teach and reinforce technology skills necessary to be successful at Brebeuf Jesuit.
- Teach and lead students in accordance with Ignatian educational principles and the mission of Brebeuf Jesuit.
- Participate in further education in areas pertinent to the needs of students in the Learning Center, as determined in collaboration with the team and supervisors.
- Participate in the life of the school, including supporting student activities, participating in faculty/staff committees, and attending collegial events.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience as a teacher in a high school and/or middle school setting
- Prior experience in working with students with exceptional learning needs
PREFERRED
- Indiana educator license
- Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Social studies teaching experience and/or qualifications (especially in areas of history, government, and economics)
- Formal training and qualifications for working with exceptional needs students (e.g. educational psychology, special education)
- Prior experience in diverse working community
- Prior experience in a Jesuit educational setting
