After two intense days of competition, the small-but-mighty Brebeuf Jesuit Debate team captured the 3rd place title the IHSFA STATE DEBATE TOURNAMENT, a competition that included hundreds of competitors in four events. Over half of the school’s nine competitors made it to elimination rounds and 2 of the state’s four champions are from Brebeuf Jesuit.
Congratulations to state champion Michael Ebmeier for his victory in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Ebmeier lost only one round during the entire competition.
In Public Forum, the undefeated team of Hank Gregor and Will Tenbarge became the first team in state history to win the Championship two years in a row.
The Public Forum Team of Jack Ebmeier and Brian Mickel took 3rd place in the state, while Lincoln Douglas debater Arshi Singh was a quarter-finalist.
Coach JD Ferries-Rowe said, "In many ways, debate is what Jesuit education is all about. Students learn to think critically, speak persuasively, and advocate about current and topical issues affecting the world."
