This past weekend, Brebeuf Jesuit Latin teacher Rosina Khan was presented with the 2010-2011 Rising Star Award at the annual Indiana Foreign Language Teacher’s Association (IFLTA) Conference. Mrs. Khan was chosen by the IFLTA and the Indiana Classical Conference (ICC) based on a nomination by an ICC member; her classroom-focused teaching; leadership in the Classics community; continued education through summer sessions at the American Classical School in Athens, Greece, and the American Academy in Rome; administration of the National Latin Exam; and the sponsorship of an Indiana Junior Classical League (IJCL) delegation.
In a letter announcing the award, the president of the ICC, Jody Bergman, said, "Mrs. Khan inspires her students to stretch their minds both in the classroom and through extra-curricular endeavors.” At Brebeuf Jesuit, Mrs. Khan has led an Ancient Greek afterschool program and taken students on trips to Florence and the Bay of Naples, Italy. Mrs. Khan, who received her B.A. in Classics from The Ohio State University and her M.A. in Humanities from John Carroll University, teaches Latin I-V. She has worked at Brebeuf Jesuit for five years.
