Congratulations to Brebeuf Jesuit’s 2011-2012 National Merit Semifinalists. The Semifinalists were announced in September by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. This year’s semifinalists are Zachary Arnold, Spencer Baugh, Peter Ciaccia, Rachel Fogel, Miranda Gavrin, Alec Gorge, Henry Gregor, Michael Joson, Bridget Kelly, John Marxer, Jon Okenfuss, Quinn Shue, Patricia Spears, Kyle Taylor, William Tenbarge and John Yoo.
Brebeuf Jesuit students represent five percent of the total National Merit Semifinalists in the state of Indiana. More than 1.5 million juniors from over 21,000 high schools entered the 2011 National Merit Program by taking the 2010 PSAT. 16,000 semifinalists were selected based on those PSAT scores. Semifinalists must fulfill several requirements to advance to the finalist level of the competition. The finalists will be announced in the Spring of 2012, and will then have an opportunity to compete for approximately 8,200 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $36 million. The goal of the National Merit Scholarship program is to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.
