Brebeuf Jesuit boys and girls tennis coach Rick Scotten was named District III’s Boys Coach of the Year by the IHSTCA (Indiana High School Tennis Coaches Association).

Coaches of the Year for each district are determined by a vote of coaches in attendance at the Spring and Fall district meetings. Plaques are awarded to each recipient at the annual State Convention each February.

Scotten has held this position at Brebeuf since 2002 and has taken both the boys and girls programs to be amongst the best in the state. In 2008, Scotten coached the girls’ doubles team (Anna Beth Barnard and Gabrielle Rubenstein) to a state championship and then followed that by coaching the boys’ doubles team (Chris Plump and Charlie Hurst) to a second place finish in 2009, along with coaching the state champion (Dougie Barnard) in No. 1 singles. His teams are always ranked in the Top 20, if not the Top 10, of the state year in, year out.

This fall, the Brebeuf Jesuit boys tennis team finished #2 in the state, winning the Marion County Championship, and the sectional, regional and semi-state championships. Senior Dougie Barnard was also the state runner-up in No. 1 singles.

Brebeuf Jesuit Athletic Director Mike Marshall congratulates Scotten on being named the Indiana Boys Tennis Coach of the Year. "I have watched Coach Scotten build the tennis program into a perennial state contender each year and his dedication to the development of the student-athlete is second to none.”

Congratulations, Coach Scotten!
