Faculty and staff nominations for the following scholarships are traditionally received in May/June for scholarship presentation at the September Fall Honors Convocation.
Claire H. and John P. Diercks Endowed Scholarship
Established in memory of Claire H. Diercks, Brebeuf School Treasurer 1962–66, and John P. Diercks, who assisted the school with business affairs 1962-66, this scholarship is presented to a Brebeuf Jesuit support staff dependent. Special consideration is given to students with cumulative GPAs of not less than 3.0, and who demonstrate academic promise, leadership skills, and ethical character. The Diercks scholarship may be awarded in successive years to qualified candidates. *
Ellen Foster Memorial Endowed Scholarship
The Ellen Foster Memorial Scholarship is presented to a student who embodies the qualities and concerns that made Ellen Foster ’81 a unique member of the Brebeuf Jesuit family: a male or female senior student athlete (current or past varsity athlete) who is a joyful inspiration to others; possesses an unassuming attitude and a courageous and independent spirit; is clear-sighted with compassion and integrity; and has an intense love for and is a friend to all of God’s creation. A cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above is required for consideration for this scholarship.
James H. Howard Memorial Science Scholarship
Howard family and friends established the James H. Howard Memorial Science Scholarship in memory of James ’82 who was an athlete, a scholar who loved science in every sense, and a man for others - evidenced by his tutoring of fellow students and participation in community service. This scholarship is awarded to a senior who holds a 3.0 cumulative GPA or above, is academically strong in science, and is a person who possesses James’ concern for others.
Jonathan R. Ilagan Memorial Scholarship
In memory of Jonathan R. Ilagan ’92, this scholarship is presented to a student distinguished by outstanding achievement in science – particularly in the areas of chemistry and physics; who exhibits a genuine concern for world issues; and who greatly values friendships.
Jonathan R. Ilagan Chemistry Prize
Also established by the Ilagan family, the Jonathan R. Ilagan Chemistry prize, in memory of Jonathan ’92, is presented to an outstanding chemistry student.
Bart McCormick Memorial Scholarship
Established in memory of Bart McCormick ’92, this scholarship is awarded to a student who embodies that which made Bart McCormick a unique member of the Brebeuf Jesuit family: male senior who demonstrates leadership, determination, compassion, integrity, maturity, initiative, inner strength, and a selfless care for others. A cumulative GPA of at least 3.5 is required for consideration for this scholarship.
Note: Scholarships noted with an asterisk (*) require the completion of the financial aid application during the freshman application or current student reenrollment process. Several such scholarships are intended for middle income families.
