As part of Brebeuf Jesuit’s commitment to socio-economic diversity, the school offers an extensive financial assistance program. In 2005, Brebeuf Jesuit allocated nearly $900,000 in scholarships and financial assistance to 216 students.
Types of Financial Assistance
• General financial aid is awarded on the basis of need. All families pay a portion of tuition according to financial ability. Each year, approximately 24 percent of Brebeuf Jesuit students qualify for and receive a general financial aid package. Brebeuf Jesuit makes every effort to provide sufficient financial assistance so that, to the extent possible, each student’s financially determined needs are met.
• Work study provides freshmen and sophomores who qualify for financial assistance the opportunity to earn money for tuition or fees through work provided on campus. Through light maintenance or clerical jobs, students earn money to satisfy a certain dollar amount of tuition, generally the first $1,000 of the financial aid package. The work study program operates throughout the school year and during the summer months, based on the student’s availability.
• Scholarships are awarded on the basis of need and/or merit in various areas, depending on the scholarship designation. Several are available to incoming freshmen and can be renewed through senior year if the student continues to meet the academic requirements associated with the particular scholarship. Each family must complete the financial assistance application to qualify.
Other scholarships are available to students after their freshman year on a one-time basis. Students are nominated and invited to apply for these scholarships, which usually offer up to $1,000 in assistance, generally without reference to need, and are based on the criteria specified for each scholarship – for example, leadership, community service, or exemplary academic accomplishment.
