The Brebeuf Jesuit Religious Studies Department promotes the Jesuit, Catholic, Interfaith identity of the school. While the faculty is Roman Catholic, and most textbooks come from Catholic publishers, classes are taught from a thematic perspective, allowing room for input and dialogue from various faith traditions. The freshman World Religions class begins this process of interfaith dialogue, and it is nurtured throughout the entire Religious Studies curriculum.
Daily classroom prayer, journal reflections, classroom discussions, critical reflection, and creative interpersonal activities help foster the Ignatian Spirituality of the school in each of the religion classes. The faculty of the Religious Studies Department embraces the Ignatian Pedagogical Paradigm (experience, reflection, and action), and courses are designed with this in mind.
