WRESTLERS ADVANCE TO REGIONALS…
This past weekend in the Decatur Central Wrestling Sectional seniors Ben Bastnagel (112lb) and Allen Goebl (215lb) finished 3rd in their respective weight classes to qualify for Regionals at Perry Meridian on Saturday.
Senior Matt Kaster finished 5th and will be the first alternate at the 140lb weight class at Regionals.
Congratualtions to all of these regional qualifiers and Good Luck this Saturday at Perry Meridian!
Also, congratualtions to all of the wrestlers whose season came to an end this past weekend. It has been a promising year for the future of Brebeuf Jesuit wrestling because of your hard work and accomplishments!
WRESTLING SENIORS SENT OFF IN STYLE…
Brebeuf wrestling seniors Ben Bastnagel, Allen Goebl, Matt Kaster, and Rob Wynne were honored before yesterday’s meet with Sheridan. The Braves then followed with an inspired 51-21 win over the Blackhawks. Individual match winners were Johnny Harkey, Matt Ralls, Ben Bastnagel, Kevin Bennett, Patrick Krier, Matt Kaster, Rob Wynne, Conor Delehanty, and Allen Goebl.
Bastnagel is now 23-5, Goebl is 26-6, and Krier is now 31-1.
Will Crews and Paul Grubbs scored impressive JV wins, both pinning their opponent.
Next up for the Braves is the Cardinal Ritter Duals on Saturday.
WRESTLERS ARE 7TH IN TRI HIGH INVITE…
The wrestlers won two duals and lost three, to finish 7th at the Tri High Invitational on Saturday. The Braves lost to Tri 22-58, defeated Indian Creek 63-18, lost to Centerville 24-57, lost to Hamilton Heights 10-68, and defeated Northeastern 43-30.
Allen Goebl and Patrick Krier went 5-0 on the day. Rob Wynne and Ben Bastnagel went 4-1. Patrick Krier is now 30-1 on the season and ranked 17th in the state.
WRESTLING TEAM IS 3rd IN BEN DAVIS GIANT SIX…
The wrestling Braves dropped their first two matches and won their final three to finish 3rd in the Ben Davis Giant Six on December 30th. The Braves fell to Ben Davis 64-15, then to Fishers 42-28, before defeating Washington 58-18, Northwest 39-31 and Speedway 37-36.
119lb Ben Bastnagel and 130lb Patrick Krier were individual weight class champions. Ben Bastnagel is now 17-4 and Patrick Krier is 24-1 on the season.
WRESTLERS ARE 12th IN COUNTY…
After a pair of rough rounds Friday evening, a depleted roster of Brave grapplers battled back to place three individuals and finish 12th in the Marion County Wrestling Tournament at Warren Central on Saturday.
Junior Patrick Krier suffered his first loss of the season in the semi-finals against returning County champion from Perry Meridian. Patrick later topped off a dominating consolation bracket run with a pin against Lawrence Central’s John Solie to finish 3rd at 130lbs. Patrick is now 19-1 on the season.
Seniors Rob Wynne and Allen Goebl had impressive tournaments as well.
KRIER STAYS UNBEATEN, BRAVES 8TH IN HOME INVITE…
Patrick Krier had two pins and two technical falls to earn the 130-lb championship at the Brebeuf Jesuit Invite on Saturday. The Braves finished 8th out of 16 teams. Rob Wynne was the runner-up at the 145-lb weight class, and Allen Goebl was 3rd at the 215-lb weight class.
WRESTLERS FINISH STRONG IN KENTUCKY…
The Brebeuf wrestling team traveled near Louisville this past weekend to challenge some of the top wrestling programs in Kentucky. The day started with losses at the hands of three of that state’s top 20 teams: #16 Simon Kenton, #10 Eastern, and #18 North Oldham.
The Braves finished strong in what was a very long day by beating Holmes 66-12, and then Franklin County 48-31.
Three wrestlers finished the day 5-0. Senior Allen Goebl improved his record to 10-1 on the season. Freshman Matt Ralls and Junior Patrick Krier dominated and extended their perfect records to 11-0. Patrick Krier is currently ranked 20th in the state at the 130-lb weight class.
The Braves wrestle next in the home invitational on Saturday.
WRESTLERS FALL AT DECATUR CENTRAL…
The wrestling team lost a tough match with Decatur Central Tuesday, 48-24. Senior Allen Goebl picked up an impressive third period pin, while Senior Ben Bastnagel, Junior Patrick Krier and Freshman Matt Ralls all remain undefeated with wins.
Senior Ben Bastnagel was the team’s first winner by collecting a forfeit at 119lbs. It took little effort for Junior Patrick Krier to dispose of his opponent. Patrick had a decisive lead before winning by pin in the first period. Senior Allen Goebl changed gears to pin a tough opponent in the third period. The highlight of the evening was when freshman Matt Ralls got the visiting crowd into the action by quickly tossing his opponent to his back early in the first period and finishing with another impressive pin for the team.
Next up for the Braves wrestlers: Oldham County H.S. Super Duals in LaGrange, KY on Saturday. Wrestling begins at 10:00am.
WRESTLERS SHINE AT DALEVILLE…
The wrestling team had 6 individual champions en route to a second-place finish in the Bronco Super Duals Saturday at Daleville High School.
Matt Ralls, Ben Bastnagel, Patrick Krier, Matt Kaster, Rob Wynne and Allen Goebl all posted undefeated 4-0 records in their respective weight classes and brought home individual medals.
Kevin Bennett, Mitch Overley and Conor Delahanty were all 3-1 on the day
The Braves defeated Indianapolis Manual 54-30, Whites 64-12, and Daleville 52-21 before losing a very competitive dual to Noblesville 46-27. Brebeuf and Noblesville split the 12 head to head match-ups 6-6.
Matt Ralls, Ben Bastnagel, Patrick Krier and Matt Kaster are all 5-0 on the season. Decatur Central is next up for the Braves, tomorrow at 6:30pm.
WRESTLERS OPEN SEASON WITH LOSS TO TECH…
The varsity wrestling team fell to Arsenal Tech last night, 44-24. However, in the loss many inexperienced wrestlers displayed a lot of promise for the remainder of the season. Varsity winners included Matt Ralls, Ben Bastnagel, Patrick Krier, Mitch Overly, and Matt Kaster.
Reserve wrestlers proved that there will be competition for varsity throughout the season. Impressive reserve wins came from Kevin Bennett, Abe Arregui and Will Crews.
The grapplers head to Daleville this weekend for the Bronco Duals. Wrestling begins at 9:00 am.
